The French rider, Joris Daudet and the Dutch rider, Laura Smulders are the new Elite European Champions whereas the Juniors titles were won by the Swiss, Cedric Butti and the Brit, Blaine Ridge-Davis.

The races were held in a very special and attractive venue and for the three days the track which also hosted Cruisers and Challenge races was set up in the heart of the city centre at the ‘Place des Quinconces’. The number of competitors taking part was a great success for the continental race: 1750 athletes from 26 countries concrete proof of the great interest in BMX.

The reigning Elite World Champion, Joris Daudet, dominated in a hard fought final winning the race ahead of Twan van Gendt (Netherlands) and another French rider, Sylvain Andre. In the Elite Women’s category, the Dutch rider, Laura Smulders, the favourite, after coming top in the final ranking of the UEC BMX European Cup, won the European Champion’s jersey beating Elke Vanhoff (Belgium) and Simone Tetsche Christensen (Denmark). In the Juniors category, the titles were won by Cedric Butti (Switzerland) beating his fellow countryman Gil Brunner and Titouan Blanchod (France). In the Women’s events, first place went to Blaine Ridge-Davis (Great Britain) in front of the Latvians, Vineta Petersone and Vanesa Buldinska.

David Lappartient, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme: «We have just witnessed one of the best editions of the BMX European Championships, once again confirming the great interest in this discipline. We have seen three days of top level sport in a unique and attractive venue celebrated in a festive atmosphere with families and cycling fans. I would like to thank all the competitors, their National Federations, the City of Bordeaux, the French Cycling Federation and the Organising Committee of the ‘Stade Bordelais ASPTT BMX’ lead by Bruno Ripault, whose professionalism and passion enabled them to organise an event that will remain etched in the history of European Cycling.»
