MTB JUN/U23 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS – DENMARK AT THE TOP

The first of the two events of the 2023 Juniors and Under 23 European Championships came to a close today in Anadia (Portugal).

The continental event, which will continue with the European Track Championships from 11 to 16 July, began with the Mountain Bike Championships, which awarded a total of eleven titles.

Denmark topped the final medal table with 4 gold and 1 silver, ahead of Switzerland (1, 3 and 2) and France (1 gold and 2 silver).

The European Championships in Anadia opened with the presentation of the Short Track titles, which were won in the Juniors category by Carla Hahn (Germany) and Mikkel Lose (Denmark), and in the top category by Ronja Blöchlinger (Switzerland), who had already won last year, and David Campos (Spain).

The Team Relay event was dominated by the Danish national team with Gustav Pedersen, Withen Philipsen, Julie Lillelund, Sofie Pedersen, Malene Degn and Sebastian Fini Carstensen, ahead of France and Italy.

As for the Juniors Cross-Country, the continental titles were won by two of the greatest talents on the international scene. In the women's race, Italy's Valentina Corvi won a thrilling head-to-head battle with Germany's Carla Hahn, with Katrin Embacher (Austria) completing the podium. The Men's race was dominated by Denmark's Withen Philipsen, who clearly beat Freek Bouten (Netherlands) and Sivert Ekroll (Norway).

The programme ended on Sunday with the Under 23 Cross-Country races won by Sofie Heby Pedersen (Denmark) and Adrien Boichis (France).
