Bordeaux will host the 2017 BMX European Championships

Bordeaux will host the 2017 BMX European Championships

In 2017, it will be the city of Bordeaux that will host the UEC BMX European Championships.

This important agreement was signed yesterday between the leaders of the European Cycling Union (UEC), the French Cycling Federation (FFC) and representatives from the ASPTT BMX ‘Club du Stade Bordelais’, that will be organising the Championships.

This event will conclude a series of initiatives devoted to BMX organised in the capital of the Gironde region, that will host the French Championships the week before.

Technically speaking this competition is important and this venue will be ideal for the best European cyclists who will be taking part. The races will take place on a temporary track that will be built in the magnificent backdrop of the ‘Place des Quinconces’, in the heart of the city centre over 31 hectares making it one of the biggest urban areas in Europe.

David Lappartient, President of the European Cycling Union (UEC) stated: «We have always believed in BMX, a young and dynamic discipline which fits perfectly with the current spirit of cycling together with the tradition of this sport. This is why we did not hesitate to award the 2017 edition of the European Championships to Bordeaux, a city which has always had close ties with cycling. We know that the way in which the races will be organised and the organising capabilities of the ASPTT BMX ‘Club du Stade Bordelais’ will help to make these Championships unforgettable and unique».
