LAURA SMULDERs AND NIEK KIMMANN TRIUMPH IN #EUROBMX19

The Netherlands dominated the BMX European Championships in the Elite category thanks to the success of Laura Smulders and Niek Kimmann, meanwhile in the Juniors the titles were won by Zoe Claessens (Switzerland) and Ross Cullen (Great Britain).

The races took place in the brand new facility in Valmiera (Latvia), the home town of the double Olympic champion in this discipline (Beijing 2008 and London 2012) Maris Strombergs, which also hosted the Cruisers and Challenge categories during these three days of racing. The success of this continental event was confirmed by the number of competitors: 1044 from 26 countries, demonstrating the great interest in BMX.

The former world champion, Niek Kimmann dominated in a fiercely fought out final, beating his compatriots Twan van Gendt and Dave van der Burg.

In the Elite Women’s events, the current world champion, Laura Smulders, the favourite, once again won the European champion’s jersey ahead of her opponents, Judy Baauw (Netherlands) and Simone Tetsche Christensen (Denmark).

In the Juniors, the titles were won by Ross Cullen (Great Britain) beating his compatriot Ryan Martin and the Frenchman Hugo Marszalek.

In the Women’s category, Zoe Classens (Switzerland) triumphed ahead of Viktoria Vaskova (Russia) and Ellie Featherstone (Great Britain).
