#EUROTRACK18 JUNIOR-U23: SIX DAYS OF GREAT CYCLING IN AIGLE

Following the success of the European Championships in Glasgow, the Union Européenne de Cyclisme is preparing to experience another week of great cycling with the Track and Under 23 Junior European Championships that will take place at the World Cycling Centre velodrome in Aigle (Switzerland) from 21 to 26 August 2018.

343 riders (52 Junior Women, 108 Junior Men, 71 Under 23 Women and 112 Under 23 Men) from 25 countries have registered for this continental event to win the 44 titles on offer.

Rocco Cattaneo, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme: «It is an honour for the European cycling movement to be able to hold a continental championships in the «home» of world cycling and especially because the event that will be held from 21 to 26 August is for the youth category. For six days we will have the opportunity of getting to know those riders who will be on the international scene in the future. We should not forget that the Junior and Under 23 Track European Championships are a springboard for many riders who have won world and olympic titles throughout their career.

The line up includes some very highly qualified riders and we are pleased with the number of countries taking part: 25, a number in keeping with the last few editions despite the problems with having to move the Championships at the last minute. I would like to firstly thank all the National Federations who have been understanding and sympathetic.

In particular, I would also like to thank the President of the Union Cycliste Internationale, David Lappartient, for opening the UCI’s doors for us, the Mayor of Aigle, Frédéric Borloz, the Canton of Vaud with Philippe Leuba and Nicolas Imhof, Swiss Cycling and all the World Cycling Centre team who will be working alongside us at this important event, only a few hours after the closing of the Junior World Championships.»

In 2017, the Junior and Under 23 Track European Championships medal table was dominated by Italy with ten gold medals, one silver and three bronze, ahead of Russia (7 gold medals, silver and 6 bronze) and Great Britain (7 gold medals, 6 silver and 11 bronze.).
