SWITZERLAND’S DAY AT T#EUROROAD21, TITLES TO REUSSER & KUNG

Marlene Reusser and Stefan Kung will wear the Time-Trial European Champion’s jersey for a year.

Today the Swiss won the continental titles on the second day of the 2021 European Championships in Trento (Italy).

A year after the success in Plouay (France), Stefan Kung became the best Time-Trial specialist in Europe with a very powerful performance on the 22.4 kilometre circuit. The Swiss, fourth at the Tokyo Olympic Games, dominated the second part of the race and crossed the finish line with a time of 24’29” beating the current World Champion in the speciality Felipo Ganna (Italy), second in 24’37, meanwhile the Belgian Remco Evenepoel, winner of the European title in 2019, finished third in 24’44”.

In the Women’s events, Marlene Reusser showed her ability in the Time-Trial races with a clear win over her main rivals. The Swiss finished the race (22.4 km) in 27’12” (average 49.380 km/h) in front of the specialists Ellen van Dijk (Netherlands), second in 27’32”, and the German Lisa Brennauer, bronze medal with a time of 28’15”.

The second day began with the Women’s Under 23 Time-Trial won by the Italian Vittoria Guazzini.

The Tuscan rider, multiple champion on the track, dominated the race riding the 22.4 kilometres in 29’02” (average 46.290 km/h), beating by 38’’ the second rider, the current European Champion Hanna Ludwig (Germany) who finished with a time of 29’40”. To round off the Italian win, Elena Pirrone won the bronze medal (29’47”).

Two years after his 2019 victory, the Dane Johan Price Pjetersen once again won the Under 23 Time-Trial European World Champion jersey.

Price Pjetersen cruised to victory (22.4 km in 25’35”) beating the Norwegian Soren Waerskjold, second with a time of 26’08”, meanwhile Daan Hoole (Netherlands) finished third in 26’09”.

Tomorrow will be the third day of the 2021 UEC European Championships in Trento with the first Road races: Juniors (Men and Women) and Women Under 23.
