The 2016 Road European Championships started today in Plumelec (France) and will finish on Sunday afternoon with for the first time in history titles awarded in the Elite category. During this opening day, the first three titles in the time-trial were awarded.
The Italians dominated in the Junior Women’s race with Lisa Morzenti who rode the 12.7 kilometres in 19’02” and won the continental title ahead of her compatriot Alessia Vigilia (19’16”) and the French rider Juliette Labous (19’24”).
The new Junior time-trial European champion is the Frenchman Alexys Brunel who rode the 24.5 kilometres from Josselin to Plumelec in 35’58”, in front of the Swiss rider Marc Hirschi (36’09”54) and the Norwegian Iver Knotten (36’09”78).
Lennard Kamna (Germany) powered to victory in the Under 23s race riding the 24.5 kilometres in 33’59”, ahead of the Italian Filippo Ganna (34’29”) and the French rider Remi Cavagna (34’34”).
Tomorrow on the second day of the European Championships in Plumelec – Morbihan – Britanny (France) the titles for the Elite Women and Under 23 Women’s will be up for grabs (25.4 km start at 10.30 am) and Men’s Elite (45.5 km, start at 2.04 pm).
