BMX EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS TO ZOE CLAESSENS AND NIEK KIMMANN

The 2023 BMX Racing European Championships finished today in Besançon (France) with the Team Time-Trial competitions won by Netherlands (men) and Switzerland (women).

The races took place on the Rosemont track, which also hosted the Cruiser and Challenge categories for three days. The sheer number of participants made the continental event a success, with 2,405 athletes from 24 countries confirming the high level of interest in BMX.

In the Elite men's event, reigning Olympic champion Niek Kimmann (Netherlands) dominated a particularly hotly contested final to take the title ahead of France's Jérémy Rencurel and Romain Racine.

Swiss champion Zoe Claessens, who had already won the European Elite title in 2021 and was one of the favourites, once again won the European champion's jersey, beating Malene Kejlstrup (Denmark) and Merel Smulders (Netherlands).

In the Men's Under 23 category, Mathis Jacquet (France) won ahead of Filib Steiner (Switzerland) and Matéo Colsenet (France), while the European Women's title went to Nadine Aeberhard (Switzerland) with Tessa Martinez (France) in second place and Michelle Wissing (Netherlands) finishing third.

In the Junior category, the titles went to Edgars Langmanis (Latvia) and Laura Mougey (France).

The next European BMX Racing Championships will be held in Verona (Italy) from 31 May to 2 June 2024.
