BMX STARS BATTLE IN BESANÇON FOR THE EUROPEAN TITLES

There is just one day to go before the European BMX Championships take place in Besançon (France) from 7 to 9 July.

During the three days of racing in the city in the Doubs department, titles will be awarded in the Elite, Under 23 and Juniors categories for men and women, as well as in the European Challenge and the Team Time Trial; events in which more than 2,400 athletes from 23 countries have entered.

Riders to watch out for in the Elite category will be the top three finishers from the 2022 edition, Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Kye Whyte (Great Britain), Cedric Butti (Switzerland) and Eddie Moore (Great Britain), as well as Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist Niek Kimmann (Netherlands), Joris Daudet and André Sylvain (France).

In the women's race, the favourites will be the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Champion Bethany Shriever (Great Britain), who will start as defending champion, and the strong Dutch athlete Laura Smulders.

Enrico Della Casa, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme "This year's European BMX Racing Championships take on an even greater significance, as in 2024 we will have the opportunity to see this discipline play a leading role in the Olympic Games, which will take place right here in France. The Union Européenne de Cyclisme is proud to support and promote the development of cycling in all its forms, including BMX Racing, which combines adrenalin, speed and skill, and has become one of the most spectacular disciplines in the world of sport.

I would also like to thank the organisers and all those who worked hard to make this event possible. Thanks to a group of tireless volunteers from BMX Besançon, guided by the passion of Stéphane Barroca, this city and its track represent one of the best in Europe. Thanks also to the city of Besançon, which is preparing to welcome over 2,400 competitors from all over the continent with its renowned hospitality, and to the French Cycling Federation and its President Michel Callot, who, along with the national BMX commission chaired by Joël Martinez, has always worked closely with us.”
