2021 MTB EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS, A FIRST FOR SERBIA

Only a few days remain before the start of the 2021 MTB European Championships, that will take place in Serbia, at Novi Sad, from 12 to 15 August 2021.

In total, over 500 Junior, Under 23 and Elite riders from 36 countries are registered to compete in the continental race and win the titles on offer including the Team Relay and Eliminator as well as men’s and women’s Cross-Country and Masters titles.

Among those taking part will be some of the most prominent on the international stage. In the women’s races, the current World Champion Pauline Ferrand Prevot (France) who will be up against top class opponents to defend her 2020 European title in Monte Tamaro (Switzerland), including the Swiss Linda Indergand, bronze medallist at the recent Tokyo Olympic Games, the Ukrainian former European Champion Yana Belomoina, the Pole Maja Wloszkovska and Cyclo-Cross specialist Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado (Netherlands).

In the men’s events, all eyes will be on the Spaniard David Valero Serrano, third in the Olympic race in Tokyo, Victor Koretzky (France), fifth at the Olympic Games and winner this year of a World Cup race, without forgetting the former Under 23 Champion, Vlad Dascalu (Romania), Simon Andreassen (Denmark), the expert Ondřej Cink (Czech Republic) and the young Simone Avondetto (Italy).

Enrico Della Casa, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme: «The event in Novi Sad will be historic for the UEC since it will be the first time that a European Championships will be held in Serbia, in a part of our continent where cycling has great potential and is developing considerably especially in the Youth category, which represents the future of our sport.

The City of Novi Sad is well prepared to welcome girls and boys and the Masters and to deliver high level technical races in a unique setting including the magnificent Petrovaradin Fortress.
